—I'll take you.
-There's no need.
—I'm not asking you.
Before she could answer, her phone started ringing.
Sophia's name appeared on the screen.
Adrian declined the call.
It rang again.
And another one.
Finally, he answered.
—What's happening?
I couldn't hear Sophia's words, but I saw her expression change.
—I'm going there.
He put his phone away and looked at me with obvious conflict.
—Sophia had an accident.
—Then you should go.
—I'll have the driver take you.
-OK.
My ease in letting him go seemed to enrage him even more.
But he said nothing.
That night I settled into a small apartment that I had bought before the marriage and that Adrian didn't know about.
The next morning I went to the clinic alone.
I had an appointment to evaluate the termination of the pregnancy.
I wasn't sure I wanted to do it.
But I needed to know my options before making a decision.
