—Are you pregnant?
Adrian separated from her.
-Yeah.
—But you said you were going to get a divorce.
—We already did it.
Sophia tried to hide her relief, although the curve of her lips betrayed her.
—Then we can start again.
Adrian did not answer.
He opened the car door and offered me his hand.
—Go inside and rest.
Sophia paled.
—Adrian, I came from so far away to see you.
—Elena needs rest.
Those words hurt her more than any direct rejection.
I accepted his hand and left slowly.
As I passed Sophia, she leaned towards me.
—You must feel very humiliated.
I stopped.
-Because?
—Because he left you as soon as I got back.
I looked at her with a calm smile.
—Then you should be grateful to me. I gave it to you without forcing you to fight.
Her expression froze.
I entered the villa without turning my head.
A few minutes later, Adrian appeared behind me.
"Sophia will be staying temporarily at a family property," he explained. "She won't be coming here again."
I slowly took off my shoes.
—You don't need to explain anything to me. I'm not your wife anymore.
The phrase seemed to irritate him.
—Can you stop reminding me?
—Would you prefer that I forget it?
Adrian opened his mouth, but did not answer.
That afternoon I packed my bags.
I had no intention of staying in a house where I could run into my ex-husband every morning.
When the staff brought my things down, Adrian came out of his office.
Where are you going?
—To my apartment.
—The villa is yours.
—The documents are not yet registered.
—They will be tomorrow.
—Even so, I prefer to leave.
He got in my way.
—The doctor said you should avoid strenuous activity.
—I'm not making any effort. There are people taking care of the luggage.
—Elena.
"Mr. Sterling, stand aside."
Her eyes darkened.
