6. Sexual Activity Can Temporarily Change Vaginal Odor
Sex can temporarily alter the vaginal environment.
Semen is less acidic than the normal vaginal environment, so vaginal pH can temporarily change after intercourse.
This can affect odor.
You may also notice a different smell because of:
- Lubricants
- Condoms
- Body fluids
- Sweat
- Changes in vaginal bacteria
A temporary change that resolves on its own isn't necessarily concerning.
However, if odor changes repeatedly after sexual activity or occurs alongside unusual discharge, pelvic pain, sores, burning, or discomfort during urination, medical evaluation may be appropriate.
