He stared at the object in his hand: a rusty master key.
“Stop him,” the warden ordered.
The guards moved instantly.
Ray struggled. “You can’t do this! This is a legal execution!”
“I have a witness,” the warden replied calmly. “And now I have reason to doubt everything.”
The execution did not take place that night.
