Paris has rarely tried to appear untouched by what she has experienced.
Her tattoos, fashion, music, and public openness all reflect a strong desire for self-expression. Yet healing is more than displaying one’s wounds. It can also involve learning which parts of a painful past deserve to be spoken about, which deserve privacy, and which no longer deserve control over the present.
That distinction matters.
There can be courage in speaking openly about suffering, particularly when doing so helps remove shame from experiences that many people endure silently. But there is also strength in refusing to make suffering the center of one’s identity forever.
Paris’s creative work suggests an ongoing effort to find that balance.
